We are seeking a highly-motivated, self-starting individual to be part of a 15 member team that supports Northern Trusts registered broker-dealer/investment advisor subsidiary; Northern Trust Securities, Inc. Broad based broker-dealer experience is required. Knowledge of Regulation D private placements is highly desired. Experience with options, futures, swaps and other derivative instruments would be a plus.

Major Duties:

1. Provide day to day advice and counsel to management, product, sales, marketing, portfolio management, risk, and compliance staff;

2. Draft, negotiate and review various types of legal agreements and regulatory documents;

3. Keep abreast of new laws, regulations, and industry trends in assigned areas of responsibility; and

4. Act as legal advisor to in-house committees and participate in industry groups.

5. Serve as Corporate Secretary.

Qualifications – External

 Candidates should have 5+ years of experience working in a major law firm or in-house practice in relevant areas.

 Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of management

 Ability to exercise high quality legal analysis and practical judgment, to spot issues and develop appropriate solutions

 Ability to interact with and advise on a wide range of asset management issues

 Very good communication skills and ability to demonstrate good teamwork both within the Legal Department and with business partners

 Ability to manage outside counsel relationships

 Interest in getting involved in other emerging legal matters

 Must be licensed to practice in the State of Illinois (will consider outside state of IL)
