Job Description and Duties
Position is located within the Tax and Fee Programs Bureau.
Under the general direction of the Tax Counsel III (Supervisor), the Tax Counsel III (Specialist) in the Tax and Fee Programs Bureau of the Legal Division performs expert legal services for the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) performing the more complex and sensitive legal work, including, but not limited to: representing CDTFA in appellate hearings; independently conducting research; drafting legal opinions; answering oral and written inquiries from CDTFA staff, other governmental entities, and the public; drafting or assisting in drafting legislation and regulations; and providing legal consult in the preparation of various CDTFA publications. Overnight travel throughout the state may be required up to 20% of the time.
The Attorney III eligible list may be used to fill this position. Candidates whose eligibility is based on results from the Attorney III exam must meet the minimum qualifications of both the Attorney III and Tax Counsel III (Specialist) classifications.
