Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a member of the Employment Law group. The group handles employment related litigation before state and federal agencies and courts and various arbitration forums. The group also provides legal advice and guidance to Citizens Banks HR and business leaders related to all employment law related matters, directs internal employment investigations, conducts due diligence for M&A, etc.

This position will report to the Managing Counsel, Employment who reports to the Deputy General Counsel, Litigation & Employment. The incumbent will serve as first chair in employment law litigation and arbitrations; e.g., claims of harassment, discrimination, wage and hour matters, restrictive covenant and other contractual disputes, and workplace safety issues. With the assistance of a paralegal, the litigator will draft pleadings, draft and argue motions, promulgate and respond to written discovery, take and defend depositions, and represent the Bank before courts and arbitrators. The intent of this position is to in-source litigation currently handled by outside counsel.

The successful incumbent will also represent the Bank before federal and state EEO agencies, including drafting position statements and handling fact findings, mediations and hearings. In addition, the incumbent will provide pragmatic and innovative counseling to reduce legal risk.



A minimum of seven years experience representing and advising clients in a law firm or in house

Experience in litigation, including conducting witness interviews, written discovery, taking and defending depositions, drafting and responding to written discovery, drafting and arguing motions, and first chair in jury and bench trials and/or arbitrations

Experience in settling litigation matters in mediation, conciliation and one-on-one negotiations with opposing counsel and pro se plaintiffs

Experience counseling corporate clients on varying aspects of employment law matters

Highly responsive, with strong communication skills to deal with internal and external constituents, including senior business leaders; external counsel; regulatory officials; risk, compliance and audit counterparts at the organization; counterparts at other companies; and industry representatives

Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong time management, prioritizations and organizational skills.

JD from an accredited law school and bar admission in a state within Banks primary footprint or ability to waive in
