In the Regulatory Legal Group, you will have the opportunity to actively assist the teams developing these programs and to work with our regulators to bring the Companys vision to reality.

Role Overview

Provides legal counsel to Xcel Energy and its subsidiaries and manages outside counsel. Handles routine legal matters with minimal assistance from other attorneys, and assists other attorneys with complex legal matters.

  • Prepares or reviews routine contracts, pleadings, briefs and other documents.
  • Provides counsel to Xcel Energy employees on legal, business, legislation, regulation and strategic matters.
  • Represents Xcel Energy in courts, regulatory agencies and other adjudicatory or adversarial proceedings.
  • Provides opinions on policy questions and legal implications of Xcel Energy operations.

Skills Needed to be Effective In this Role

This role involves drafting and editing legal documents; speaking in front of our state regulatory commissions; leading internal project teams; and interfacing with all business units within the Company. Skills that are needed to be successful in this role include:

Minimum Requirements

Senior

  • Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school. Licensed to practice, or willing to obtain a license to practice, in Colorado.
  • 3-6 years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience.

Principal

  • Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school. Licensed to practice, or willing to obtain a license to practice, in Colorado.
  • 6-10 years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience.

Assistant General Counsel

  • Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school. Licensed to practice, or willing to obtain a license to practice, in Colorado.
  • 8 or more years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent experience.

What You Will Learn as Part of the Team

This is a unique in-house legal role. As a part of the Xcel Energy Regulatory Legal Group, you will have the opportunity to regularly speak in public with our regulatory commissions and to work with witnesses who also will be speaking with our regulators.
