PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS IS A (1) YEAR TEMPORARY GRANT POSITION


Serves as a Paralegal in Troop 6 for the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Under limited supervision, processes Rule 5/Brady discovery requests served on Law Enforcement Officers in DUI cases and coordinates scheduling of Office of Motor Vehicle Hearings (Implied Consent Hearings).
Review and evaluate discovery requests (Rule 5/Brady) served on SCDPS Law Enforcement Officers in DUI cases.

Request materials from SCDPS Law Enforcement Officers to prepare responses to discovery requests in DUI cases.

Resolve disputes between defense attorneys and SCDPS Law Enforcement Officers regarding discovery requests in DUI cases.

Coordinate with the Office of Motor Vehicle Hearings and SCDPS Law Enforcement Officers for the scheduling of implied consent hearings.

State Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and experience in providing administrative support for an attorney(s) or a legal office.

Agency Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and relevant experience in public administration or administrative services or experience as a paralegal. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Additional Requirements
Considerable knowledge of legal terminology, research techniques, and court rules and procedures.

Must be experience with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Must be familiar with criminal discovery and appropriate responses. Must be familiar with online dockets for South Carolina courts and administrative tribunals.

Ability to handle confidential information and projects discretely. Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions.

Perform duties under limited supervision by attorneys in the Office of General Counsel.
