Overview

As a staff attorney or senior attorney (determined by post-bar admission experience and other factors regarding assignment of pay concept), the incumbent will handle litigation involving the Michigan Department of Corrections from routine pro se prisoner matters to complex litigation and class actions. The incumbent will draft formal and informal legal opinions; perform legal research; draft memoranda of advice; provide day-to-day legal representation for the Michigan Department of Corrections including representation in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals; draft Attorney General Opinions; participate in training; respond to citizen letters; participated in settlement negotiations; and handle other MDOC matters as assigned.

Position DescriptionEducation
Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.

Experience

Attorney – Staff P15

No specific type or amount is required.

Attorney – Senior 16

Four years post-bar admission legal experience.

Membership in good standing in the Michigan State Bar.
