HOVER is looking for a seasoned legal professional to lead and become the heart of our legal team. The General Counsel will have responsibility for all legal matters including corporate contracts (vendor, partner, and customer), corporate governance, corporate insurance, employment law, equity administration, privacy, and data ownership initiatives.

This role reports to the CFO and is part of a broader G&A team with strong guiding principles: INTEGRITY, INFLUENCE and INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT.

You will contribute by:

You will build out the corporate legal organization and will define the level of impact and influence this team will have on HOVER. The role itself is broadly defined. As the first order of business you will manage a contract attorney and serve as a business partner to the IP Legal team. This means that you will personally drive most strategic deals while also overseeing and enhancing our vendor and customer contracts processes such as drafting our SaaS licensing and partner commercial agreements.

You will lead all strategic and tactical legal initiatives, advise the company and executive team on legal issues and implications. You will ensure that we are in full compliance with government regulations and contractual obligations. You will manage our outside legal counsel and take over their day-to-day responsibilities as much as your expertise allows. You will recommend and implement policies to support scalability while managing operational risk.

You will help the company select the appropriate level of corporate insurance and will oversee corporate governance processes. You are ready to lead, but also not afraid to roll up your sleeves on projects such as real estate leases and sensitive employee matters. You will partner with finance and HR in ensuring that we have the most appropriate consulting and employment agreements, including compensation agreements. You will partner with the sales team to ensure that they have the systems and tools they need for an expedited quote-to-bill process.

You will be the point person for unchartered territories, including international expansion, creation of new business lines, etc. We are very much in the scaling mode, so we expect you to define this role beyond the description you are reading now.

Your background includes:

JD required + admission to the CA or NY State Bar

8+ years of practicing in a mix of large firms and in house

Start-up experience is a must, preferably at a late stage high growth company IPO experience is a plus

Strong experience negotiating, drafting and reviewing a broad range of commercial agreements

Exceptional attention to detail

Track record of close partnership with C-suite/senior level executives, influencing the business

Comfortable in a fast paced environment. Passionate about building new capabilities

Ability to translate legally complex situations into actionable strategies

Strong ability to partner cross functionally
