TITLE
Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment
SUMMARY
The Corporate Legal Department of The J. M. Smucker Co. seeks a Senior Corporate Counsel with deep expertise in employment law and working knowledge of management-side labor law. Senior Corporate Counsel will provide legal advice and assistance on a wide array of employment and labor issues typical to a large company marketing and manufacturing consumer goods.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide legal services in a manner consistent with Smuckers company culture as stated in the Basic Beliefs and Our Commitment to Each Other, both available at https: www.jmsmucker.com/about/our-values.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Provide legal support regarding employee relations.
- Provide legal support for leave and accommodation decisions.
- Provide legal support on employment-related compliance issues.
- Represent the Company directly in administrative charges.
- Manage outside counsel in litigation matters.
- Provide legal support regarding organizational design and other strategic activities.
- Develop and deliver employee education and training.
- Provide guidance on Inclusion, Diversity and Equity efforts.
- Provide legal support regarding OSHA and workplace safety matters.
- Provide legal support regarding OFCCP compliance, including affirmative action plans.
- Provide legal support and guidance regarding immigration matters.
- Implement post-mitigation/litigation refinements and solutions.
- Provide guidance as needed on labor relations, including collective bargaining and defense of arbitrations.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials; and license to practice law in at least one state.
Experience
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department or combination of the two, with a significant concentration in employment-related matters.
Desired:
- Experience with labor matters, including collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience with manufacturing companies, though experience with a consumer goods company highly preferred.
- Prior in-house experience in a similar or substantially similar role.
