The Incumbent will provide comprehensive care for patients within the scope of Ophthalmology. The scope of these activities covers hospitalized patients and phases of ambulatory care.

- The Ophthalmologist is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with medical diseases, accomplished through ambulatory and bed-based resources assigned to Ophthalmology and Optometry.
- Incumbent must actively participate in patient care through hospital rounds, morning reports, conferences, consultations, participation in ambulatory care, assigned call duty, and other similar activities.
- Focused on total eye care prevention, wellness and eye surgery as the overriding philosophy of practice.
- Provide cost-effective patient care, provider while assuring adequate access and maintaining a high level of quality as measured by patient satisfaction.
- Complex, comprehensive eye examinations in regularly scheduled outpatient clinics.
- The incumbent provides complex diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic eye care to patients including laser and surgical intervention.
- The incumbent contributes to teaching and supervision of Ophthalmology residents in outpatient clinic and supervision of eye surgery cases in the Operating Room.
- The incumbent performs other directly related duties as assigned, including performance of community care referrals as needed.

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: American Board certification is highly preferred.
Fellowship training as a Glaucoma Specialist is highly preferred and recommended

Physical Requirements: Incumbent needs to be mobile in that the job requires: sitting, walking, standing, and bending. Work requires trips daily from employee's work-site to other areas throughout the Medical Center.
