Job Description and Duties
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Office of Legal Services (OLS) is seeking an attorney to support and represent the Departments programs on a variety of matters. This is a permanent, full-time position on the Public Health Programs (PHP) house counsel team, located in Sacramento. We support CDPH and its programs in working to protect and improve the health of Californians.
The incumbent will have a diverse and challenging case load. The attorney will advise public health programs within CDPH on legal issues involving public health laws, matters of departmental and programmatic authority, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements for the conduct of state business, including those for procurements, contracts, grants, interagency, cooperative and data use agreements, information management, public records disclosure, open meeting laws, privacy laws, and such other legal issues as may arise; research, develop, and draft legislative language, regulations, and transactional documents; and advise the Department, and potentially the California Health and Human Services Agency, on legal issues involving the Center for Healthy Communities and other programs as assigned.
The Center for Healthy Communities represents a diverse set of public health programs that address chronic disease prevention and management, tobacco control, environmental health, occupational health, injury and violence prevention, oral health, and problem gambling.
