Job Description and Duties
The State of Californias Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) has an exciting career opportunity for a Tax Counsel within its Litigation Bureau. The Tax Counsel will handle or assist in the handling of all aspects of tax and fee litigation and bankruptcy and collection litigation matters. Responsibilities of a Tax Counsel within the Litigation Bureau include, but are not limited to: conducting legal research; drafting court pleadings; drafting legal opinions; applying and interpreting state tax law and regulations, federal bankruptcy law, and state debtor-creditor law; litigating tax and fee, bankruptcy, and collection disputes; reviewing and preparing legal documents; and providing consulting and other professional legal work and job-related activities. Travel (up to 10% of the time) is required for this position.
The position will be located in one of the two offices based on the location of the selected candidate (Norwalk Office or Sacramento Headquarters Office). The position will report to the Litigation Bureaus Tax Counsel III (Supervisor), who is located in Sacramento.
