The City Attorney acts as a key partner in helping the City Administration and the City’s leadership team shape the City’s organizational culture and implementing the City’s vision. The City Attorney manages and oversees the activities and operations of the City Attorney’s office and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Administrator.
The City Attorney serves as Chief legal advisor for the City and makes unambiguous recommendations for actions. This also requires that all legal opinions be vetted sufficiently in order to avoid, whenever possible, a change in the opinion at a later time.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. These hours may vary based on operational needs.
Salary: $107,927-$131,180, Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant’s education and experience (this salary range reflects Steps 1 and 5 of a 7 step pay scale). An excellent fringe benefits plan, including a car allowance, life insurance, and a defined compensation contribution will be provided as well. Reasonable relocation expense reimbursement will be negotiated.
Juris doctorate from an accredited law school.
Seven (7) or more years experience in municipal or other government law experience.
Five (5) years of management and supervisory experience.
Membership in the Montana State Bar and licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts.
A valid Montana driver’s license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, and a Federal and State criminal background check.
