Job Description
GEICO seeks a Rhode Island licensed attorney in good standing with 1-2 years of personal injury litigation experience or up to 3 years of general litigation experience to work in its Providence Staff Counsel Office. The candidate will handle automobile accident defense litigation including first and third party personal injury and property damage claims. Under supervision, the attorney will be expected to manage files from start through resolution. This position requires travel within the geographic area covered by the office, including coverage of depositions, arbitration hearings, mediations and court appearances. Essential functions include legal research, preparation of legal briefs, opinions and memoranda, rendering opinions on liability, damages and value of claims as well as coverage issues as requested by the Claims Department. Functions will also include preparation of pleadings, motions and discovery requests and responses, as well as conducting depositions/examinations under oath, mediations, arbitration hearings and trials. Salary and grade will be commensurate with experience.
