Job Description: Works independently to perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, or may receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and directives from the test officer, supervisor, or engineer, and directs the actions of non-leader employees. Independently plans and conducts test and evaluation projects of a limited scope, or a portion of a larger and more diverse project involving techniques related to the development, application, and operation of computer-based data acquisition systems and associated signal conditioning equipment. Understands the process of analog/digital signal conditioning, serial communication, Controller Area Network (CAN) buses, transducers, radio frequency (RF) telemetry systems, and fiber optics. Configures, installs, and operates instrumentation packages comprising of the Advanced Modular Data Acquisition System (ADMAS), power supplies, measurement transducers, network connections, and wireless equipment without guidance. Foundational understanding of video formats and compression standards. Proficient with the capture, transmission, and conversion of video signals for use in engineering measurements and analysis. Experience with the selection, setup, configuration, and diagnosing of camera systems and video transmission equipment. Performs complex trouble-shooting techniques on all kinds of video systems, microwave systems, radio frequency (RF) systems, and fiber optic networks. Uses electronic troubleshooting instrumentation such as multi-meters and fiber optic power meters in order to troubleshoot and repair complex breaks in all types of signal transmission media to include single and multi-mode fiber cables and current category Ethernet patch cables. Applies conventional engineering practices to analyze, interpret, and produce electrical/electronic drawings and schematics. Assembles electronic/electrical equipment, cables, connectors, and test fixtures using schematics, sometimes with little detail. Performs standard or non-standard tasks related to instrumentation and range setup, test execution, data compilation, range maintenance, and technical facility operation independently. Qualifications: 7 yrs. applicable experience (AMT & SAT – 7 yrs. applicable experience firing weapons or equivalent test and evaluation range experience); or at least 60 credit hours or an Associates Degree and 5 yrs. applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 6 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 5 yrs. applicable experience; or a Bachelors Degree and 3 yrs. applicable experience; or a Masters Degree and 1 yr. applicable experience. Technician specialized areas include: Armaments and Munitions (AMT), Ballistic Instrumentation, Close Combat, Data System, Flash X-Ray, Generator Test Site, Geodetics, Maritime (MT), Mobile Equipment Tester, Network, Optical Engineering, Optical Instrumentation, Small Arms (SAT), Soldier Systems, and Vulnerability/Lethality (VLT). Essential Functions Form: UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION May require sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time (70%). The ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach above shoulder level and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 50%). DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment may be inside or outside, depending on the task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures, and other outdoor climatic conditions (25%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS Conducts test and evaluations on various types of automotive equipment, which requires a working knowledge of various types of thermocouples, data acquisition, and /or other electronic test equipment. Uses a variety of standard references, guides, and precedents to obtain needed information. Must have a working knowledge of computers in order to provide various reports as required. Work may require being around moving machinery and equipment. Must be able to wear all required personnel protective equipment supporting the various tasks. Work may require driving auto equipment, forklifts as well as other equipment. CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice. OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Must be able to communicate effectively. May be required to direct work assignments of other personnel associated with assigned tasks. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. May be subject to hearing tests, laser eye exam, and complete blood count. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. If working with depleted uranium, an Urinbioassay and Invivo lung scan may also be required. May be subject to exposure to noise, vibration, radiation, temperature extremes, lead, petroleum, oil, lubricants, dusts, and solvents. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid drivers license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required.
