The Staff Attorney reports to the Senior Staff Attorney and provides legal counsel to Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation and its affiliates by researching and making recommendations based on federal and state statutes while exercising expertise in areas related to health care. This position is primarily responsible for handling day-to-day contractual and operational issues including, but not limited to, research contracts and issues, contracts with referral sources that require compliance with the Stark and Anti-kickback statutes, other professional services contracts, supplier contracts, leases, patient consent matters, EMTALA questions and issues, human resources matters including EEOC and employment litigation and various other legal issues confronting a major health care organization. Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to accurately and successfully manage multiple, critical contracting matters and output multiple time-limited projects; Must have excellent legal writing skills and be able to quickly and accurately advise Baptist while professionally negotiating with opposing counsel; Must have a pleasant demeanor and be able to function effectively with other members of the legal team as well as all other employees of a large corporate clientele; Must have exceptional problem-solving and writing skills; Must be able to consistently meet deadlines while handling multiple complex projects and impromptu issues; and A JD (Juris Doctor) from an ABA accredited university/school of law is required, as well as bar licensure in Arkansas, Mississippi, or Tennessee, or the ability to become licensed in any of the three states through reciprocity. Preferred Qualifications: All of the foregoing plus five years experience in a corporate health law and/or law practice setting in any of the practice areas listed above.
