Operations editors are responsible for ensuring that our work is built to reach as many readers as possible. They make this happen through training, frequent sharing of best practices with editors and in-the-moment guidance and optimization for trending stories.
The ideal candidate for this role has some experience in sports coverage, can spot opportunities for audience growth and can identify trends in data and emerging best practices. Operations editors act quickly to glean insights from traffic patterns and act on them in concert with assignment editors. Using the knowledge of their section's workflows, operations editors help inform what our engineering teams build to improve our newsroom tools.?
The daily duties of an operations editor can include using Google Analytics to craft an analysis of a week's performance, identifying trending stories worthy of smart coverage, advocating for a specific publishing strategy for a series of stories and working with editors to discuss coverage of a big upcoming live event, such as the Olympics.
Please consider applying if you meet most of these requirements: at least four years of journalism experience, a history of growing audience for a large news publisher, a demonstrated ability to work with reporters and editors to craft smart publishing plans, an understanding of search engine optimization tactics and experience using analytics to make real-time and strategic decisions.?
This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, the position will not be eligible for remote work.?
