Materials Handler (MVO) – Washington D.C.




This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Tenant Services Division, Furniture Branch is seeking a reliable and responsible Materials Handler (MVO) who will perform tasks in the receipt, storage and delivery of furniture and furnishings.

Tour of duty for this position is Monday thru Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends.

The individual selected for this position will:

Unloads and uncrates furniture and furnishings such as carpet, chair mats, chairs, desks, file cabinets and glass for desk, table tops and tables.

Occasionally drives a 24 foot long box truck with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) under 26,000.

Selects location for item storage based on established storage plans. Enters receiving and disbursement data into the automated inventory.

Delivers items/ furniture and furnishings from warehouse stockrooms to storage areas using dollies, forklift lift trucks, hand trucks, pallet jacks and other materials handling equipment.

Notifies vendors to resolve any discrepancies noted. Operates bar code scanner and places property numbers on items and records numbers on inventory records.

Operates a forklift truck with a load capacity of less than 10,000 pounds and a height capacity of 168 inches to transport materials. Regulates movement of the truck and forks, being careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of materials.

Determines condition of furniture, assembles it if required and performs any necessary repairs and cleaning prior to delivery.

Places furniture/items as directed by staff members and rearranges existing furniture as requested. Delivers furniture and furnishings to client offices and committee rooms.

Transports any items removed from the client's office space to storage or repair shop as appropriate.

Documents damages, overages or shortages and informs the Property Manager. Obtains properly executed receipt documents and returns them to the inventory section.

Provides or received training either on the job or through classroom training to ensure proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
