Lewer is looking for a dynamic professional to serve as General Counsel and to be responsible for legal aspects of the Lewer companies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Legal:

Defines and develops corporate policies, procedures and programs and provides continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters

Assumes ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the companys business units and entities are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Handles contracts and corporate filings

Keeps abreast of federal and state regulations applicable to the companies

Responsible for travel health insurance policy drafting and claims determinations

Oversees subrogation and right of recovery processes

Responsible for recording Corporate meetings and minutes

Provides legal advice to Human Resources regarding discipline and terminations, complaints, and investigations, EEOC, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, Annual Notices and DOL compliance.

Reviews Employee Handbooks for compliance with employment law

Reviews and advises on Workers Comp, Property, and General Liability Insurance Programs

Handles inquiries and information requests from State and Federal agencies, clients and attorneys, IRS 1099 Issues, and subpoenas

Serves as legal advisor on all major business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures

Judges the merit of litigation against or on behalf of the company, works with the appropriate executive(se) to define a strategic defense and approves settlements of disputes

Responds to DOI Complaints and other escalated administrative issues

Oversees the selection, retention, management, and evaluation of all outside counsel

Supervises the Associate General Counsel and Paralegal/Licensing Coordinator

Project Management

Supports leadership in the management of cross-functional teams fostering honesty, trust, and respect among team members

Performs a variety of highly skilled duties such as assembling, coordinating, and participating with cross-functional teams on projects assigned by the Executive Team

Facilitates and troubleshoots problems

Responds to inquiries about projects

Assists in developing departmental and business unit goals and objectives, policies, and procedures consistent with the strategies and goals of the company

Financial Management

Advises on legal aspects of the companys financing, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities

Qualifications:

Law Degree

Kansas licensed attorney

Minimum of 5 years experience in state/federal regulation

Experience in negotiation and drafting of contracts, corporate filings, and audits

Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience

Advanced user skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines
