<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>About the Position:</strong> Arlington National Cemetery is located in Arlington, VA. Since May of 1864, Arlington National Cemetery has served as the nation's premier military cemetery and shrine honoring those men and women who served in the Armed Forces.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Service a variety of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines.</li> <li>Perform preventive maintenance which involves oil and filter changes.</li> <li>Ensure proper fluid levels in braking system and powersteering reservoirs.</li> <li>Operate electrically controlled fuel pump for dispensing gasoline and diesel fuel to vehicles.</li> <li>Record fuel pump readings when pumps are opened and closed.</li> <li>Operate a 14,050-pound, 25-passenger bus used to conduct special VIP tours.</li> <li>Operate vehicle to pick-up government officials and personnel attending meetings or ceremonies in the Cemetery.</li> <li>Wash and wax vehicles by hand or by use of powered equipment, such as hot water pressure washer or powered buffers.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 6 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.</li> <li>Must have or be willing to obtain a Class B CDL license with (P) endorsement.</li> <li>Must possess and retain a valid state driver?s license.</li> <li>Must pass testing for and retain a government driver?s license.</li> <li>May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.</li> <li>Employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.</li> <li>The position is considered weather essential and is required to report to work under all weather conditions.</li> <li>This position may require weekend work.</li> <li>Incumbent must pass a physical prior to appointment.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br /><strong>Who May Apply: US Citizens</strong><br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.<br /><br />There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.<br /><br />Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mobile Equipment Servicer (MVO)~ without more than normal supervision.<br /><br /><strong>Screen-Out Element:</strong> removing and installing wiper blades, light bulbs, checking air pressure in tires and inflate to correct pressure; to charge batteries and add distilled water or battery acid as necessary – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.<br /><br /><ul><li>Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision</li><li>Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)</li><li>Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment</li><li>Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.</li><li>Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)</li></ul><br /><br /><strong>Physical Effort:</strong><br /> Lifts objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and lifts heavier items with assistance. Incumbent frequently walks, stands, bends, reaches, and works in awkward positions. The incumbent frequently works on top of equipment at heights up to 18 feet above the ground. Physical effort is needed at this level to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles<br /><br /><strong>Working Conditions:</strong><br /> Incumbent works outside in all types of weather. Indoor work is done in dirty, oily, and greasy areas where there is constant exposure to cuts, bruises and burns.
