Stryker’s Flex Financial division provides our customers in North America and Europe with flexible, responsive medical equipment financing. The Counsel, Flex Financial serves as the lead attorney for the Flex Financial Flex Financial division. With a seat at the Flex Financial leadership table, this attorney will be a results-oriented strategic partner and trusted advisor and will deliver practical, business-sensitive legal advice.
This attorney will partner with Flex Financial leadership, finance professionals, partner banks, and marketing, sales and legal colleagues across Stryker’s worldwide selling divisions. S/he will support management and lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, sales-oriented environment. S/he will develop relationships across Stryker divisions and work closely with business and functional units on a diverse range of strategic and legal matters. This attorney will have one or more direct reports. S/he will also provide leadership across the Strategic Contracting team, as a lead subject matter expert in emerging sales contracting models and as an escalation point for complex strategic contracts negotiated by the team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Partners with the Flex Financial Leadership Team in a sales-oriented and highly regulated environment on a broad range of matters, including complex legal and compliance issues consistent with laws, regulations, and Stryker policies.
Partners with business, sales and legal teams to close transactions—including overseeing and/or participating in the drafting, editing, and negotiating of complex contracts and proactively handling various commercial matters through to resolution.
Serves as a strategic partner with leaders of selling divisions to facilitate the sales function and drive success for divisions.
Advises on industry trends, program development, and emerging areas of the law, including healthcare fraud and abuse regulation and enforcement.
Assures sustainable compliance with contracting obligations, laws, regulations and Stryker policies.
Initiates, develops and provides in-house training and internal processes to mitigate risk.
Collaborates with colleagues and senior management.
Actively supervises and strategizes with outside counsel.
Possesses extensive knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework concerning the sale and marketing of medical devices/technologies to federal customers, including fraud and abuse, procurement, and government ethics laws and regulations.
Networks effectively to resolve matters outside of direct expertise or responsibility.
Education & Special Trainings:
JD from an accredited U.S. law school.
Admitted to practice law and in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. State or the District of Columbia.
Meets local legal license requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum 8 years applicable professional experience in law firm or corporate legal department setting with demonstrated expertise in health care law, corporate transactions, or capital leasing or financing; Prior professional experience considered; medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences experience strongly preferred.
