Do you want to lead and facilitate the development of capital projects for our Downstream business at the Commerce City refinery? Our refinery is the only petroleum refinery in Colorado and the largest in the Rocky Mountain region, producing 100,000 barrels of oil per day. In this role, you will be part of the integrated team that manages the project from end-to-end, serving as team lead for the front-end loading stages of project development. You will be responsible for providing technical direction to project support engineers to ensure the project designs meet the intended objectives; championing safety, environmental, process safety management, reliability and operability in the designs.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide Suncor technical leadership for project designs from the various discipline engineering groups including technical guidance and mentoring
  • Steward the Asset Development and Execution Model (ADEM) process in the development stages of projects and ensure deliverables are met for stage and project gate reviews
  • Collaborate with project controls and project managers to ensure project execution and development plans are created and kept up to date in the overall project integrated schedule
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance and Technical leadership and personnel to solicit project input
  • Participate in and offer advice during process hazard analysis (PHA) or layers of protection analysis (LOPA) for small capital projects
  • Demonstrate a safety mindset both on and off the job
  • Develop and sustain internal and external customer relationships in order to ensure appropriate partners have reviewed process designs
  • Manage and oversee work done by our contractors
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with the team, other peers and third party contractors
  • Improve internal work processes to increase efficiency and productivity

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of Project Engineering or Project Management experience
  • A Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience with project management models and project management skills
  • Demonstrated non-authoritative leadership skills to influence and build positive relationships and lead diverse groups to a common vision
  • An analytical and problem-solving mindset with strong business insight and an understanding of how to recognize opportunities for value creation
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Three years of operations experience
  • Five years of design experience
  • Experience working at a refinery
  • Advanced knowledge of refinery operations and project economics
  • Proficient with industry standards and standard methodologies
  • Knowledge in equipment sizing and selection
  • Familiarity with process safety management
  • Computer literate in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn new computer packages (e.g. PI Process Book, Knowledge Management System (KMS) , Siemens Relief Valve Program (PSPPM), and SAP)
  • The ability to interact with all levels in the organization with appropriate style and communication
  • The ability to integrate and balance big-picture concerns with day to day activities
  • The ability to resolve conflicts and use a collaboration approach to maintain positive relationships and work towards solutions under difficult circumstance

Where youll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Commerce City Refinery Business Center, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs SAP:ENG
