<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for:<br /><br />The incumbent conducts research and analyses, conference management and political military planning efforts, database management, plans assessments, and coordination production services in support of J-5/JOWPD. The work includes efforts to develop planning and posture processes, and integration concepts.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br />As a JOINT PLANNER at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: <ul> <li>Represents the Director, Joint Staff J-5 and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in development and coordination of campaign and contingency plans with senior staff within and outside the Department of Defense.</li> <li>Serves as an advisor to management on planning and posture effects with DoD and non DoD personnel and provides policy advice and guidance, as needed.</li> <li>Provides expert oversight in the management of complex projects, activities, and action items.</li> <li>Conducts research and analysis, as needed, to support planning and posture efforts and successful project completion.</li> <li>Leads or contributes to the formulation of campaign and contingency planning and posture development policies.</li> <li>Designs and prepares for planning and posture coordination conferences, working group meetings, and seminars in support of Combatant Commands (CCMD) and DoD planning efforts.</li> <li>Leads or assists with the planning and coordinating of multiple and major interagency working groups, planning cells, military exercise sessions, and war games.</li> <li>Coordinates interagency requirements and inputs and contributions to the development of diverse strategy and plan and posture development cycles and reviews for the CCMD's, Services, Defense Agencies, and other departments and agencies of the USG.</li> <li>Serves as the JS lead with the responsibility for creating and managing interagency support mechanisms to facilitate collaboration on war plans, posture and political/military planning.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Occasional travel – You may be expected to travel for this position.<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 14 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Must be a U.S. citizen</li> <li>Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service</li> <li>Resume and supporting documents (See How To Apply)</li> <li>Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation</li> <li>May be required to successfully complete a probationary period</li> <li>Work Schedule: Fulltime</li> <li>Overtime: Occasionally</li> <li>Tour of Duty: Flexible</li> <li>Recruitment Incentives: May be Authorized</li> <li>Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt</li> <li>Financial Disclosure: Not Required</li> <li>Telework Eligibility: This position is NOT telework eligible</li> <li>This is a drug testing designated position.</li> <li>Employee must obtain/maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret/SCI) security clearance</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br />You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:<br /><br />A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: <ul> <li>Providing guidance on the development and management of campaign and contingency plans and amplifying instructions for planners.</li> <li>Developing the guidance for, or participating in, the planning and development of theater or functional posture.</li> <li>Creating and implementing doctrine and policies regarding interagency political/military planning.</li> <li>Planning and coordinating large scale meetings with senior level staff where discussion takes place regarding campaign and contingency plans, theater or functional posture, or interagency political/military planning.</li> </ul> Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
