<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>About the Position:</strong><br /><br />These positions are in DoDEA Quantico Facilities, Quantico, Virginia.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Perform heavy lifting and cleaning of athletic gym area removing heavy equipment daily and cleaning to include bleachers that are movable or non-movable.</li> <li>Work outside for general maintenance activities (picking up debris, using high pressure sprayers to wash buildings, digging ditches and trenches when needed).</li> <li>Provide snow and ice removal from entry steps, landings, and walkways to buildings when needed.</li> <li>Assist the Gardner by planting and transplanting shrubbery, applying fertilizer as directed, applying mulch to beds, raking leaves, etc.</li> <li>Use heavy powered equipment to maintain the lawn and grounds, i.e. cutting grass, edging lawn, etc.</li> <li>Use powered tillers to prepare flower beds and lawn areas for sod and bedding plants.</li> <li>Maintain parking areas, sidewalks, curbs, ramps, pathways and signage, by cold patching surfaces, painting lines and symbols, replacing signs and performing weed control in cracks and roadways.</li> <li>Maintain playgrounds, athletic fields, preparing fields for specific event, setting up and moving sports apparatus etc.</li> <li>Work on ladders/scaffolds to clean and/or replace ceiling fixtures, walls, replace light bulbs and other similar tasks.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> None <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.</li> <li>Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.</li> <li>Direct deposit of pay is required.</li> <li>Appointment subject to a suitability /fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.</li> <li>This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.</li> <li>A pre-placement medical examination is required.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br /><strong>Who May Apply: US Citizens</strong><br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.<br /><br />There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.<br /><br />Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Laborer without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: cleaning facilities; maintaining outside areas (i.e. picking up debris, using high-pressure washer, digging ditches, snow and ice removal); and utilizing powered equipment to maintain lawn and grounds. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.<br /><br />You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:<br /> <ul><li>Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision</li><li>Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)</li><li>Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment</li><li>Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order)</li></ul><br /><br /><strong>Physical Effort: </strong>Requires very heavy physical effort such as frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds (moving, setting up and working from ladders and scaffolds).<br /><br /><strong>Working Conditions</strong>: Works outside in all kinds of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, dirty, noisy and have other adverse working conditions. The equipment, tools and tasks involved frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries.
