### Summary
This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Alaska
Region, Probate and Estate Services in Anchorage, Alaska.
NOTE:
TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY
RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

### Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the timely preparation of
probate cases, maintaining accurate probate filing and tracking
systems, and supporting the BIA probate function:
– Maintains statistical records on estate planning, estate
administration, will drafting and summary distributions.
– Provides assistance on future dispositions or transfer of trust
and restricted property.
– Maintains data in automated probate tracking systems from
“notification of death until distribution of trust assets”
occurs.
– Changes appropriate records (manual and automated) to reflect
changes in records as a result of Orders issued by the
Administrative Law Judges or Attorney Decision Makers.
– Prepares necessary and proper documentation for distribution of
trust assets to close estate accounts in accordance with Orders
issued by the Administrative Law Judges or Attorney Decision
Makers.

– Assists in the preparation, proper assembly and transmittal of
all documents required including heirship data required by
regulations or requested for probate purposes.
– Receives calls and visitors and answers inquiries from owners of
trust and restricted land regarding rules governing probate.
– Types correspondence, reports, memorandum, and other documents.
– Assembles outgoing material and documents according to
prescribed policy and procedures.
– Files and maintains probate records in accordance with Indian
Affairs Manual (IAM) and other instructions.

### Qualifications
**EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:** (OPM Operating Manual,
Qualification Standards for One-Grade Interval Clerical and
Administrative Support Positions, GS-0962).
**GS-7:** 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6
grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either he public or
private sector), assisting probate specialists in the preparation of
guidance in estate planning to assist clients in drafting of wills,
life estates, codicils, revocations of wills, etc. necessary to
satisfy the client’s intent or wishes. Review probate system reports
for statistical analysis in regard to estate planning, estate
administration, will drafting and summary distributions, and
provides assistance on future disposition or transfer of trust and
restricted property.
**GS-6:** 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5
grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or
private sector), assisting probate specialists by providing
technical assistance work in support of probate processes; maintain
data tracking system; prepare necessary and proper documentation for
distribution of trust assets to close estate accounts, assemble
outgoing material according to policy procedures, files and
maintains probate records; assisting with incoming and outgoing
mail.
**GS-5:** 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4
grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or
private sector), assisting probate specialist by providing technical
assistance work in support of probate processes; maintain data
tracking systems; assist with incoming and outgoing mail; prepare
documentation for distribution of trust assets; and files and
maintains probate records;
**OR EDUCATION:**
4 years of successfully completed education above the high school
level in any field at an accredited business, secretarial or
technical school, junior college, college or university. (One year
of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45
quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at
least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately
36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.)
**PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:** In addition to meeting the experience
or education requirements, for all positions titled as Office
Automation or any clerical positions which has parenthetical title
of Office Automation (OA), applicants must have typing proficiency
of 40 words per minute (wpm) and knowledge of general office
automation software such as, word processing, personal computer,
electronic mail, database management, spreadsheet, etc. Failure to
provide OA proficiency will result in loss of consideration.
Applicants may meet the office automation requirement by passing the
appropriate test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a
school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates
by the Office of Personnel Management local office or by
self-certifying their proficiency.

Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements
by the announcement closing date.

### Education
If you are qualifying based on your education, you MUST provide
transcripts or other documentation to support your educational
claims. Unless otherwise stated: (1) official or unofficial
transcripts are acceptable, or (2) you may submit a list with all of
your courses, grades, semester, year, and credit for the course. All
materials must be submitted by the closing date of the
announcement.
If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit
hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior
academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership
in an honor society.
One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the
number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to
represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have
been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot
obtain your graduate school’s definition of one year of graduate
study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered
as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate
study.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or
universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a
Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to
receive credit for that education which shows the education
credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that
specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such
education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited
U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the
courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. For further
