<b>Job Number: R0053992</b><br /><br />Beam Control Engineer/Scientist, Senior<br />Key Role:<br />Design, analyze, build, integrate, and test beam control systems in laser weapon systems. Leverage comprehension of different beam control approaches, algorithms, requirements, and dependencies. Analyze the development of beam control requirements from operational requirements, including fast steering mirrors, optics mountings, telescopes, sensor mounts, exit windows, optical benches, and gimbals, design, develop, test, and document internal and external interfaces, and evaluate options to achieve requirements, such as operating in stressing environments, survivability, maintainability, reliability, and operability. Conduct jitter, finite element, thermal, stress or strain, and packaging analysis and design issue resolution. Assist with component or material selection and predictions of laser and environmental effects on materials and structures based on thermal loading, including developing requirements and designing opto-mechanical layouts for all optical components from concept to hardware. Develop and apply advanced mechanical engineering design methods, theories, and research techniques to the investigation and solution of complex and advanced problems. Investigate tests of considerable complexity pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes, investigate possible applications of results, and review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.<br /><br />Basic Qualifications:<br /><br />-10+ years of experience with the design, development, integration, and test of optical systems and controls regarding laser systems, including control, alignment, and line-of-sight stabilization of laser systems to single-digit micro-radian accuracy <br /><br />-5+ years of experience with the development of laser systems and controls for integration onto land, air, or shipboard applications and vibration mitigation and control<br /><br />-Experience with beam control architectures, including employing fast steering mirror design and control, calculating and designing to aim point requirements, jitter, and system stability in the low and high frequency regimes, and active and passive component alignment<br /><br />-Experience with one or more of the following: control system development in MATLAB Simulink, coding in higher-level languages, or control using real-time systems<br /><br />-Ability to develop requirements and translate them into design solutions, build models, and run simulations to predict system capability<br /><br />-Ability to work with other engineers and scientists in a team environment to design, build, integrate, test, and evaluate laser weapon systems<br /><br />-Secret clearance<br /><br />-BA or BS degree<br /><br />Additional Qualifications:<br />-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills, including communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely through multiple mediums, including presentations and reports using Microsoft Office software<br /><br />Clearance:<br /><br />Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.<br /><br />We're an EOE that empowers our people-no matter their race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other protected characteristic-to fearlessly drive change.
