To be considered under both the Public (US Citizens) and Government Wide procedures you must apply to both announcements.</strong> <br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><strong>At the </strong>GS-12 in addition to duties at the lower grade level, typical duties may include:The incumbent serves as a Technical Writer-Editor responsible for developing, writing and editing major accident reports, and investigative reports that describe and analyze the facts and circumstances of marine accidents and identify conclusions and safety recommendations. Manages and coordinates the development of major accident reports. Researches and collects information for reports and uses the information to write safety recommendation letters from adopted reports. Creates and modifies layout and design (e.g., typography, photographs, illustrations, charts, graphics) as needed. In addition, the incumbent writes, rewrites, and/or edits correspondence, memoranda and other products for the Director's and the Chairman's signatures and speeches for the Board Members.<br /><br /><strong>At the GS-11</strong> typical duties may include: Edits and writes investigative reports that describe and analyze the facts and circumstances of marine accidents. Evaluates the collected evidential material as well as the sources providing the evidence for validity, reliability, and substance. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school.<br /><br />or<br /><br />Six months experience that required substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications.In addition to the above qualifications, applicants must meet the Specialized Experience as indicated below.<br /><br />GS-12 Specialized experience includes: one or more years of equivalent to the GS-11 writing and editing reports on safety issues and and/or technical documents to communicate information to various audiences;participation in a major project such as a hearing, symposium, research experiment; and knowledge of transportation accident investigations; and preparing the layout of material for publication by using desktop publishing software to develop the overall design of materials.<br /><br />GS-11 Specialized Experience: includes one or more years of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 writing and editing reports on safety issues and and/or technical documents to communicate information to various audiences; and preparing the layout of material for publication by using desktop publishing software to develop the overall design of materials.<br /><br />In order to qualify, you must meet the <strong>education and/or experience</strong> requirements.
