<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This position is located in Naval Support Activity, Regional Support Services Program, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Fitness and Sports Division. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Yoga Instructor demonstrating and leading safe and effective classes under the supervision of the assigned manager. **FT STORY FITNESS**<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><strong>MAJOR DUTIES:</strong><br /><br />Responsible for conducting one or more yoga classes. Must promote good patron relationships and enhance the image of the respective program. The incumbent reviews the schedule of functions that are to take place during the assigned shift in order to ascertain what special preparations are required. Ensures that necessary space, supplies and equipment are available and that room arrangements are completed prior to start of class. Provides instruction and guidance to all patrons. Exercises supervision over all operation of the class/activity.<br /><br />Performs other related duties as assigned.<br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 03 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>This position is subject to an irregular tour, which may include weekends and holidays. </li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br />Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:<br /><br /><strong>KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED</strong><br /><br />Must possess and maintain at all times a Certified Yoga Instructor/Trainer certificate from one of the following organizations: AFAA, Yoga Alliance, and Universal Movement. Must possess and maintain at all times a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and First Aid certificate. Must be a mature individual with prior leader/supervisory experience. Must possess an adequate level of physical fitness to use and demonstrate all exercises, and be able to lead all classes. Excellent written and verbal and marketing communication and interview skills are required to assess patron needs and assist with the promotion and marketing of the program. Considerable tact and diplomacy as well as finesse are required when interacting with participants. Basic knowledge of marketing/publicity material and the use of basic computer hardware and software is preferred.<br /><br /><strong>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS</strong><br /><br />This position is under the general supervision of the assigned specialist/manager, who will evaluate work in terms of overall objectives, basic priorities and class schedules. The incumbent will act independently in performance of assigned duties. The supervisor is available to provide technical guidance on program activities and in the even unusual or difficult situation arise. Work is reviewed in terms of compliance with established guidelines, practices and customer satisfaction.<br /><br /><strong>GUIDELINES</strong><br /><br />Guidelines include DOD manuals and directives; OPNAV instructions pertaining to physical readiness standards; and Standard Operating Procedures. All established programs and policies are based on generally accepted procedures as found in the field of physical education and exercise science and are sufficiently detailed to enable the incumbent to carry out duties with little or no further instruction.<br /><br /><strong>COMPLEXITY/SCOPE AND EFFECT</strong><br /><br />Work includes the development of one or more yoga programs to improve physical readiness of military personnel and other authorized participants. Motivating participants to develop wellness lifestyles, which promote fundamental changes in their approach to health and fitness. Public relations and promotional skills are helpful to the continued success of the Navy Fitness Program. This position promotes maximum participation in fitness activities and will have a beneficial impact on the future of the Navy to: attract and retain members; provide a fit and ready defense force; improve the current physical assessment of military members, and to improve their health and sense of well being.<br /><br /><strong>PERSONAL CONTACTS/PURPOSE OF CONTACTS</strong><br /><br />Personal contact are with active-duty and retired military members, their family members and authorized DID civilian personnel as well as other departmental employees, management and various organizations and interested groups within the region. Contacts are for the purpose of educating, instructing and motivation current and potential customers to utilize the group exercise program to obtain optimal results from their exercise program. The incumbent must be able to exercise good judgment and display a sound personal character and cooperative demeanor in serving the military community.<br /><br /><strong>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT</strong><br /><br />This position requires an adequate level of physical fitness. Incumbents must have the ability to walk, stand, run, twist, bend, push, pull and lift up to 45 pounds unassisted, as necessary, to demonstrate proper exercises, participate in various individual and group activities and set a positive example of overall physical fitness. May be required to lift over 45 pounds with assistance. Work is performed in a Fitness Center setting requiring safety precautions to avoid muscle strain or other bodily injury. Incumbent works in moderate climate with pleasant surroundings. <br /><br /><strong>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</strong><br /><br />This position is subject to an irregular tour, which may include weekends and holidays. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license, as travel to other fitness facilities within the region is required.<br /><br />You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.<br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
