<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>DIRECT HIRE</strong> <strong>AUTHORITY</strong>: This position is being filled through the office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Government-Wide Direct-Hire Authority for this occupation and is open to all U.S. Citizens. Since the Direct-Hire Recruitment Authority is being used, traditional Veterans' Preference rules do not apply. Qualified Veterans will, however, be given full consideration for this position.<br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><strong>This position is located within the Department of the Interior, the Office of Policy Analysis (OPA), within the Office of the Secretary located in Washington DC. The OPA is seeking an economist to work on natural resource and environmental policy issues involving water, energy, land management, and natural resource damages and restoration. This is a high visibility position with the potential to be involved in current policy issues and related research.</strong><br /><br />At the full performance level GS-13 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:<strong><br /></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Work as part of a staff of resource economists furnishing issue analysis to the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary-Policy, Management and Budget.</li> <li>Assists in the design of economic studies to be executed by other bureaus and offices.</li> <li>Evaluates studies for adequacy of methods and relevance to policy, and advises senior specialists regarding the conduct, results and policy implications of the studies.</li> <li>Conducts economic and statistical analyses of natural resource policy issues. Degree:</strong><br /><br />Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. <br /><br /><strong>OR</strong><br /><br /><strong>B. Combination of education and experience –</strong> courses equivalent to a major in economics as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. <br /><br /><strong>(2) Specialized Experience:</strong><br /><br />To qualify for the <strong>GS-11</strong>, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the <strong>GS-09</strong> level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
