All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.<br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Prunes and trims trees and shrubs to obtain the shape, size and desired growth characteristics, and to remove diseased limbs or excess branches.</li> <li>Transplants trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants by digging proper sized holes and preparing the soil to receive the plants. Removes the plant taking care not to damage the roots and removes sufficient soil to insure its continued growth in the new location.</li> <li>Computes quantities of plants, seeds, and other materials needed for specific areas.</li> <li>Determines when plants need additional watering and how long they should be watered.</li> <li>Selects and sprays area with herbicides, fungicides and insecticides for the control of plant diseases, plant insects, and weeds.</li> <li>Cuts grass and trims hedges using either hand or power equipment.</li> <li>Fertilizes, waters, and seeds turf areas, and removes rocks, leaves, trash and debris from landscaped areas.</li> <li>May operate various types of motor vehicles (e.g., pickup trucks) to transport supplies and materials to work sites.</li> <li>May operate farm-type tractors with attached equipment such as; rotary or flail mowers, augers, tillers, etc., in the performance of the gardener duties.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Occasional travel – for meetings and training<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 6 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> </ul> <br /> <ul> <li>U.S. Citizenship required.</li> <li>Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.</li> <li>Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males</li> <li>Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.</li> <li>You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. The incumbent occasionally climbs ladders to prune or trim vegetation and lifts heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer, grass seed, etc.<br /><br /><strong>Working Conditions:</strong> The work is done outside or in a greenhouse. In working outside, the gardener is subject to discomfort from long periods in the sun, and sometimes in chilly or rainy weather. On a regular basis the conditions will involve working in are contaminated with chemical dust and sprays being applied to trees and shrubs.
