Position Title Associate General Counsel
Additional Information

The Associate General Counsel will provide a wide range of legal services in support of the University, focusing primarily on preventative counsel, risk advice, and transactional legal work in an increasingly complex public environment. Legal support areas include, but are not limited to: contracts, tort liability, issues related to student affairs, student privacy rights, public access law, intellectual property, real estate, immigration, and other legal areas affecting the University.

Position Function

Under the direction of the Vice President and General Counsel, provide a wide range of legal services in support of the University, focusing primarily on preventative counsel, risk advice, and transactional legal work in an increasingly complex public environment.

Minimum Education

Doctorate of Jurisprudence from a law school approved for accreditation by the American Bar Association; a member in good standing of the Bar of the supreme court of the state in which the person practices law, and the prompt eligibility for such license and standing in Indiana.

Minimum Experience

At least three years of legal experience with progressive scope and responsibility in handling legal matters.

Minimum Other

Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; professional integrity beyond reproach; unquestioned discretion in maintaining confidentiality; excellent written and oral communications skills in public and private settings with diverse audiences; ability to translate complex legal issues for a lay audience; strong leadership and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate with a diverse population, and ability to relate well with senior administrators, trustees, faculty, staff, students and external audiences.
