Typical work assignments will include: <ul> <li>Provide guidance, consultation, and assistance to employees, managers, annuitants, eligible family members, former employees, survivors, and beneficiaries regarding a variety of benefits such as federal retirement, group life insurance, health benefits, thrift savings plan, long term care, flexible spending, and related programs.</li> <li>Monitor benefits program such as FEGLI, FEHB, FERS, CSRS, or TSP, following proposed changes to legislation and/or regulations and ensures staff members are kept current of changes.</li> <li>Develop and conduct internal training sessions and seminars.</li> <li>Provide direct counseling to management, employees, retirees, and family members on benefit program entitlements/options and on interpretations of the laws, regulations and policies, program coverage, options, and advantages and disadvantages of benefits.</li> <li>Counsel families/beneficiaries of deceased employees' concerning benefits payable. Provide technical information and/or assistance in the completion of the required forms either by telephone or by personally meeting with the family/beneficiaries.</li> <li>Develop a variety of complex computations for retirement, disability retirement, deposits and redeposits, social security offsets, and projections for the TSP accounts or for loan payments. </li> <li>Review a variety of computations, applications, claims, reports, and other supporting documentation for completeness, accuracy, validity and compliance with law and regulation.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Occasional travel – You may be expected to travel for this position.<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> None <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>You must be a U.S. Citizen or National</li> <li>Background investigation, credit check, and drug test required</li> <li>You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable</li> <li>If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.</li> <li>Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.</li> <li>You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br />GS-12: In order to qualify at the GS-12 level you must possess at least on year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as <strong>providing advisory services to employees on a variety of Federal civilian employee benefit programs such as federal retirement, group life insurance, health benefits, thrift savings plan, long term care, flexible spending, and related programs. Examples of qualifying experience include: calculating creditable civilian service deposits/redeposits; counseling employees on federal employee health benefits; preparing annuity estimates; and processing retirement packages.<br /><br />Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- </strong> The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
