As the senior lawyer supporting Citigroup’s Cards Division, this individual will co-lead a team of attorneys and legal professional located in the US that provides legal guidance to business leaders that supports the US Cards business.This individual will build strong relationships and work closely with business leaders, while ensuring that Citi and its shareholders are well protected and positioned in the market.
This person will lead the department and will implement best practices to ensure that the processes used are transparent, clear and efficient.He/She will provide strategic direction and an environment where team members develop and excel.
The successful candidate will understand the Cards business as a whole and leverage legal knowledge to grow the business, anticipate risk and avoid regulatory pitfalls.He/She will clearly and effectively communicate with business leaders as well as external constituents such as regulators.
Manage all aspects of the full delivery of legal services related to the US Cards businesses, including leadership of the group and management of outside law firms.
Work with the business, legal colleagues, and the other control functions to identify and manage franchise and reputational risks.
Advise on existing legal issues as well as proactively advise on potential risks; spot legal and regulatory trends and advise business leaders on how to pursue business goals in a way that avoids potential legal/regulatory issues.
Operate at the most senior levels of the business, addressing strategic issues and contributing to the executive decision-making process on issues ranging from partnership and loyalty to complex marketing campaigns.
Effectively develop and manage the existing legal team to provide maximum impact.Mentor key individuals, helping them develop broader impact skills in concert with their existing technical strengths.
Play a key leadership role in building relationships with business leaders, team members and other departments through an open and collaborative style.
A J.D. and 20+ years of professional experience
Significant experience with legal issues specific to a cards business and payments, including financial technology expertise; consumer financial services experience required
Significant regulatory experience, including conversancy with the CFPB
Experience leading and mentoring a high performance, client-focused legal team
Keen understanding of emerging legal trends and risks, including developing areas of consumer protectionism in the regulatory and litigation arenas
