<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This position is located in the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Group, Facilities Management Division of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.<br /><br />The purpose of this position is to serve as a senior master Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic on the Kennedy Center staff. The incumbent will be responsible for performing HVAC work and other diversified duties on complex HVAC systems, controls, and building automation systems (BAS).<br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Responsible for HVAC systems that support a wide variety of nonstandard commercial applications including restaurants, theaters, concert halls, opera houses, large interior and exterior event spaces, parking garages, and office space.</li> <li>Inspects, constructs, installs, maintains, repairs, controls, diagnoses, troubleshoots, modifies, relocates, and loads and tests a wide variety of HVAC systems.</li> <li>Recognizes or diagnoses the electrical or electronic faults in HVAC equipment and makes repairs.</li> <li>Troubleshoots electronics in order to isolate cause of malfunction in components and works on electrical components that include series, parallel, compound lines and circuits for single and multiple phase alternating current.</li> <li>Installs, inspects, modifies, maintains, repairs, and operates controls for variable frequency drives, switch gear, and motor controllers.</li> <li>Repairs or replaces defective motors, transformers, contactors, relays, breakers, programmable logic controllers, circuit boards and thermostats.</li> <li>Installs feeder and branch circuits of all sizes and in correctly sized conduit.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 11 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>US Citizenship is required.</li> <li>Suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation.</li> <li>Direct Deposit of pay is required.</li> <li>Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt.</li> <li>Status candidates must meet time-in-grade (see Qualifications).</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br /><strong>EXPERIENCE: </strong>A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. The incumbent will climb ladders and must be able to climb stair towers of greater than 100 feet. Accessing work sites often requires walking more than three miles throughout the day and stepping over objects. Work of this position involves pushing, pulling, or carrying of objects of varying sizes and shapes, weighing up to 75 pounds.<br /><br />Incumbent works in confined areas such as attics, near ceilings, in utility corridors, etc. Incumbent will work from various heights on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
