As an expert, you will ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data. Initiate, develop, implement, and evaluate the security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs. Serve as a principal contact for coordination, implementation, and enforcement of information security policies. Recommend ways to protect the organization's information and information systems. Provide expert advice, counsel, and instruction to employees and supervisors on security issues. Review and evaluate security incident response policies and identify the need for changes based on new technologies or threats. Participate in creating and maintaining system-security plans, contingency plans, risk assessments, and certification statements. <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 13 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.</li> <li>Position is subject to a background investigation.</li> <li>Applicants must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.</li> <li>Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br />In order to qualify for this IT Specialist (INFOSEC), GS-2210, you must have IT related experience demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates that I possess all of the following four competencies: <ul> <b>Attention to Detail</b> – is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail;</li> <b>Customer Service</b> – Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;</li> <b>Oral Communication</b> – Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately;</li> <b>Problem Solving</b> – identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.</li> </ul> <b>AND</b><br /><br /><b>In order to qualify at the GS-12 level:</b> You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: conducting systems security evaluations, audits and reviews, providing advice and instruction on security issues, and participating in the development and implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs.<br /><br /><b>AND</b><br /><br /><b>In order to qualify at the GS-13 level: </b>You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: developing, implementing or evaluating the IT security programs of an organization, reviewing and evaluating security incident response policies, and identifying where there is a need for changes based on new security technologies or threats, providing advice and instructions to staff on IT security issues, and/or working with other IT specialists to build secure Web enabled applications.<br /><br />For the position in the National Institute on Drug Abuse experience in Apple OS security is preferred.<br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
