Job Summary/Basic Function

Seeking a gifted generalist transactional attorney to work on project assignments that reflect the wide-ranging legal needs of the University. The Senior Counsel will provide legal services and advice to the University administrators and other employees. This includes a mix of legal work such as transactional, University policy, and legal research and writing, as well as recommending courses of action to resolve issues infused with legal considerations, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

-Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
-Licensed to practice law in Virginia or able to be licensed, whether fully or as corporate counsel
-Demonstrated walk as committed Christian
-A commitment to the University’s mission
-Eight (8) years or more legal experience
-Professional demeanor
-Exceptional skills in written and oral communication
-Excellent legal research and writing skills
-Discretion and the ability to maintain confidences
-Ability to identify and frame complex legal issues and convey clear advice to non-lawyers
-Ability to engage in client training
-Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience
-Critical thinking and analytical skills
-A passion for research and service
-Self-motivated with strong work ethic and good organizational skills
-Agreement to submit to a complete background check
-Proficiency in Microsoft Word, working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

-Knowledge and experience in a broad range of corporate, contract, administrative, real estate and other disciplines of law, including knowledge of higher education law and administration
-Demonstrate confidence and leadership with humility
-Accept corrections with grace and humor
-Strong academic record at both the undergraduate and professional levels

During office hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
