Director of Legal

We are looking to add a key member to our five person Gigamon legal team, reporting directly to our General Counsel.  We’re looking for an experienced (more than 5 years) and practical software licensing lawyer who wants to dive into all aspects of commercial activity – negotiating and closing complex customer, channel and business development agreements. 

Hard working, team player who enjoys a fast-paced environment.  Our legal team is supportive and gets the job done.  We work closely together. You need to be comfortable working directly with customers and collaboratively with others.  Because we are a small team providing legal work for hundreds of employees, you have to be willing to roll up your sleeves to help your team members, even if it’s outside your immediate job responsibility. 

A combination of “project ownership” mentality, roll up your sleeves “can do” attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively and take input.  The Gigamon legal department is not siloed from the business functions, and we believe that good legal advice requires a deep understanding of our technology, products, business and operational issues.  We work on a range of issues without the support infrastructure that in-house counsel at large companies often enjoy.  Intellectual curiosity, good peripheral vision and an interest in learning about our technology and business are important. If you prefer taking a back seat or working on one specific thing, you won’t be happy in this position.  We work collaboratively, and so you must welcome feedback and enjoy the give and take with colleagues. 

Sense of humor.  We take our work very seriously, but try not to take ourselves too seriously. 

Minimum qualifications. 

  • JD with membership in at least one state bar
  • 5 – 15 years of relevant experience either in a technology company or at a top law firm (experienced technology patent litigators from top notch law firms who want to make the jump to interesting and fun commercial in-house work will be considered)
  • Strong problem solving, drafting and communication skills
  • Great personal UI; High EQ
