<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This position is in the Office of Internal Affairs (IA). IA is responsible for conducting misconduct investigations and protecting FSIS resources and assets from fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement. IA is an integral part of FSIS' basic management process and a valuable in-house resource for managers<br /> seeking to investigate misconduct in their respective Program Area.<br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>As the IA Director? they plan, direct, and administer a?comprehensive internal control program that is focused on investigating allegations of employee?misconduct.</li> <li>Provide advice and counsel to the Internal Affairs staff on technical and administrative matters.</li> <li>Initiates inquiries and investigations and conducts assessments.</li> <li>Conducts assessments of sensitive and complex Food Safety and Inspection Service wide problems and issues.</li> <li>Coordinates with OIG, Office of General Counsel and individual program areas to ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken and monitored.</li> <li>Prepares written reports and briefs the Administrator, Deputy Administrator, Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff on finds and recommendations.</li> <li>Supervise the Internal Affairs staff in regard to planning, scheduling, assigning and evaluating work priorities.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />50% or less – You may be expected to travel for this position.<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> Yes <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 15 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Satisfactory background investigation and/or fingerprint check required.</li> <li>U.S. Citizenship is required.</li> <li>May be subject to satisfactory completion of one year probationary or trial period.</li> <li>If you are selected, you may need to complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) prior to being appointed to determine suitability for Federal employment and to authorize a background investigation.</li> <li>False statements or responses on a resume or application can jeopardize employment and may be grounds for disciplinary action, including removal from Federal service.</li> <li>Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.</li> <li>If you are newly hired, the documentation you present for purposes of completing the Department Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 on your entry-on-duty date will be verified through the DHS "E-VERIFY" system.</li> <li>Federal law requires the use of E-VERIFY to confirm the employment eligibility of all new hires. Failure to successfully meet these requirements could lead to adverse action proceedings including possible termination.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br />Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.<br /><br />Time in grade:<br /> Applicants must meet one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-14 grade level for consideration for the GS-15 grade level.)<br /><br />For the GS-15 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-14 level) that demonstrates:<br /><br />Must be familiar with and have experience using investigative techniques. Must have experience coordinating, conducting and documenting the results of investigations. Must have experience planning, coordinating and overseeing multiple projects and investigations.
