If you are interested in working for the vibrant City of Alexandria, we invite qualified candidates to apply for our <strong>Assistant Director </strong>position.<br /><br /><strong>An Overview</strong><br />The City of Alexandria's Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) utilizes a comprehensive service delivery approach to meet the needs of low-income City residents and measurably improve or maintain their quality of life. The Office of Community Services (OCS), a division within DCHS' Center for Economic Support (CES), is part of this continuum of services, developing, implementing and maintaining safety net services that promote and support economic stability. OCS's work is accomplished by working in partnership with other CES divisions (Workforce Development Center, Customer Relations and Benefits Programs), DCHS' social and behavioral health services divisions, community-based homeless service providers, other City departments, and multiple community stakeholders.<br /><br />The Assistant Director of the Office of Community Services has the dual responsibility of supervising five direct reports, overseeing a team of sixteen (16) staff and serving as the Executive Director for the City's Community Action Agency. In both capacities, the incumbent oversees and manages the planning, development and coordination of a wide variety of safety net programs that respond to the needs of low-income Alexandrians and collaborative grants that offer a comprehensive and cohesive system of prevention, intervention and services.<br /><br />The community Action Agency is part of a state network and in the capacity of the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for the City's efforts to prevent and reduce poverty. This accomplished through the development and implement of programs and activities and partnerships with community-based emergency service providers.<br /><br />The incumbent also provides staff support to the Alexandria City Council appointed Economic Opportunities Commission.
