<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This announcement is amended to change the closing date from 7/5/19 to 7/12/19 to allow the opportunity for additional applications.<br /><br />The Office of Habitat Conservation actively promotes, influences, and enhances Federal actions related to conservation, protection, management, and mitigating damage to NOAA trust resources, including species and their habitats. It also establishes partnerships to generate scientific information that forms the basis of technical comments on aquatic habitats. <br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br />The Director of the Office of Habitat Conservation will exercise full supervisory control over three divisions, including the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Program Office. The incumbent will: <br /> <li>Performs a variety of functions including development and implementation of policies, procedures, and regulations in connection with the foregoing legislation and related programs.<br /><br /></li> <li>Evaluates plans, programs and budgets of Regional Administrators and Science Center Directors for marine habitat protection and conservation programs and recommends priorities based on national needs.<br />Maintains a continuous overview of habitat research activities of the NMFS to assess their relevance to national goals and to ensure that adequate information is available on a timely basis. Coordinates environmental activities and NMFS responses to natural or man-induced environmental crises which may threaten marine habitat or species.<br /><br /></li> <li>Maintains a close liaison with other government departments, the Congress, State and regional officials, the scientific community and all other organizations that are concerned with marine habitat issues.<br /><br /></li> <li>Provides the principal technical expertise to advise the Assistant Administrator for Fisheries on environmental matters of concern to NMFS contaminant effects and related issues, energy production effects on living marine resources and their habitats, and coastal planning and development programs.<br /><br /></li> <li>Assists coastal state agencies in the development of living marine habitat research, protection, and conservation programs.
