Additional selections may be made through this vacancy. </strong><br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br />The incumbent will manage day-to-day activities of laboratories carrying out accreditation activities under general direction and guidance. The incumbent coordinates the evaluation, selection, training and performance review of laboratory accreditation assessors and technical experts. Interacts with assessors, technical experts and laboratories in implementing the laboratory accreditation process. This position requires knowledge of metrology, testing and laboratory accreditation requirements of relevant national and international standards. Must have knowledge in metrology and test methods as well as experience with assessor selection and evaluation.<br /><br />The incumbent must be able to assess calibration and/or testing laboratories to determine compliance with relevant national and international standards as defined by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) handbooks. Requires knowledge of assessment techniques and the assessment of laboratory developed quality systems. Requires knowledge of relevant national and international standards that may impact on testing and calibrations.<br /><br />The incumbent will implement technical and operational requirements and criteria for the assessment and evaluation of laboratories for accreditation for specific test methods in specified fields of testing; directs determination of laboratory competence through on-site assessments and proficiency testing. Specialized experience is defined as experience assessing calibration and/or testing laboratories to determine compliance with relevant national and international standards. Experience with assessment techniques and the assessment of laboratory developed quality systems. <br /><br /><strong>OR</strong><br /><br />3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree<br /><br /><strong>OR</strong><br /><br />Combination of education and experience<br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This system replaces the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and grade with career paths and pay bands.
