<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><strong>About the Position:</strong> Arlington National Cemetery is located in Arlington, VA. Since May of 1864, Arlington National Cemetery has served as the nation's premier military cemetery and shrine honoring those men and women who served in the Armed Forces.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Operate one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered backhoes.</li> <li>Determine best approach to accomplish excavation.</li> <li>Assist with snow removal by operating a snowplow or road grader throughout the Cemetery.</li> <li>Manipulate equipment controls push, pull, pile, or load materials.</li> <li>Operate equipment carefully while working near persons, buildings, and other structures.</li> <li>Maneuver equipment in accordance with safety rules and regulations to prevent injuries or damage.</li> <li>Operate 2.5-ton and 5-ton dump trucks to transport equipment on installation grounds.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Not required<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 10 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.</li> <li>Must possess and retain a valid state drivers license and must pass testing for and retain a government drivers license.</li> <li>May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.</li> <li>This is a Mission Essential (ME) position and is occupied by an agency designated Emergency employee. Incumbent is expected to report to or remain at worksite during weather closure situations.</li> <li>The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Qualifications</b><br /><br /><strong>Who May Apply: US Citizens</strong><br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.<br /><br />There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.<br /><br />Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator~ without more than normal supervision. – Operating engineering equipment such as backhoes and front-end loaders to dig, pile, and load dirt; manipulating tractor and equipment controls to accomplish assigned work; operating a variety of engineering equipment on flat and rocky surfaces. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of equipment and attachments. Occasionally incumbent may be required to lift headstones or sections of pipe with assistance up to 50 pounds per individual.<br /><br /><strong>Working Conditions:</strong> Works in all types of weather on various surfaces, often in an open drivers seat.
