The Kennedy Center, which opened on September 8, 1971, is located on 17 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The Center continues its efforts to fulfill President Kennedy's vision by producing and presenting an unmatched variety of theater and musicals, dance and ballet, orchestral, chamber, jazz, popular, world, and folk music, and multimedia performances for all ages.
The Research Analysis Manager supports the Director of Research and Evaluation with the conceptualization and implementation of research and evaluation studies in the arts as they relate to Education programs at the Kennedy Center. Particular leadership and responsibility for methodological approach and analysis of quantitative data for program evaluations and research studies. In addition to presentations, technical writing, and manuscript preparation, this role will include grant writing. Consults internally when quantitative expertise is needed. Works in a team environment and assists with administrative tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40% Data Analysis
- Serve as the lead quantitative analyst, whereby recommends analytic approach and is able to apply advanced statistical methods, and communicate interpretation of results to practitioners and researchers. Supervising and/or participating in quantitative data collection, data cleaning, and analysis in collaboration with program teams, other researchers, and independent contractors.
30% Evaluation/Research Design and Methodology
- Participates in the development and implementation of all stages of program evaluations and research projects. This includes identifying research questions and hypotheses, conducting or overseeing literature reviews, developing methodological approach, drafting data collection instruments, conducting psychometric review of instruments, and submitting studies for review by IRB. This also includes providing program support with methodological and analytic guidance for formative and summative evaluations.
20% Presentations and Publications
- In collaboration with the Director of Research and Evaluation, communicate research findings and implications of research findings from policy and program perspectives. Writes final reports. Prepares manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presents papers at professional conferences.
- Assists in writing proposals selecting appropriate quantitative techniques to collect and analyze data.
N/A Ensures quality control embedded in all work and delivers high quality reports on time and within budget.
N/A Responds to the needs and requests of Kennedy Center management and staff in a professional and expedient manner, adheres to all employer policies and procedures, and other duties as assigned.
- You have a graduate degree in education, social science/psychology, statistics, or related field – including research (design, data collection and analysis) training and 3-5 years of related work experience.
- You have experience with designing and implementing program evaluations and research studies.
- You have experience with instrument development, building databases, creating data shells and codebooks.
- You have demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, including cultural competence and excellent spoken and written communication
- Strong quantitative skills required including some combination of:
- Advanced quantitative analyses of large and small-scale data sets;
- Survey design and analysis;
- Measurement/Psychometrics, IRT, Non-parametric analysis,
- Multiple linear regression, SEM, HLM, Time series, ANOVA
- Data Mining;
- Familiarity with literature on educational assessment, child development, arts learning, and/or systems change is highly desirable
- Proficiency with SPSS is required.
- Proficiency with R/R-Studio is desirable.

The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is minimal.
Travel up to 10% may be required.
