DESCRIPTION

As Real Estate Counsel, you will partner closely with the Assistant General Counsel and other members of the Legal Services Team to provide real estate legal support and risk management services for ULTA Beauty. You will also interact regularly with ULTA’s internal business teams and assist with managing outside counsel. Ideal candidates for this role will have retail real estate in-house or law firm experience, strong business acumen, excellent organizational skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. This position will afford invaluable experience and opportunity for growth within a fast-paced and dynamic organization.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Negotiate and draft Lease Amendments, SNDAs, License Agreements and other retail real estate documents
  • Draft, review and modify Rent Commencement Certificates
  • Assist Property Management, Repairs and Maintenance, Lease Administration and other business partners in lease interpretation, developing and implementing strategies on business issues and resolving disputes and conflicts
  • Review and analyze leases and other real estate documents and provide assessment and analysis of legal issues
  • Review and provide guidance to Paralegal and Administrative Assistant on preparation of waiver letters, estoppels, SNDAs, brokerage agreements, NDAs, other legal agreements and correspondence
  • Support special projects as assigned by the Assistant General Counsel

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • 5-10 years of retail leasing experience, with a track record of success either in-house or at a top law firm (or both)
  • Experience drafting and negotiating retail real estate leases and other agreements, supporting real estate litigation and providing general counsel to real estate business teams
  • Positive energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, confidence, and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment are a must
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with attention to detail, meet concurrent deadlines and organize time and conflicting priorities
  • A strong desire to learn and contribute as part of a growing team
  • High-level of proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Tririga (other cloud-based database) and the ability and willingness to master and use supporting applications and data bases

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • JD degree and excellent academic credentials
  • Admittance to practice law in the state of Illinois
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of retail real estate legal experience
  • Strong drafting, communication and analytical skills
  • In-house retail, retail real estate legal experience a plus
  • Ability to be onsite at corporate offices in Bolingbrook, IL and travel (primarily to ULTA locations) as needed (less than 10% travel)
  • Experience with environmental matters, and energy and sustainability issues a plus
