Patent Counsel

Key Role:

Serve as a patent counsel and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure protection of Booz Allen’s valuable IP assets. Maintain responsibility for invention identification and harvesting, invention disclosure review, and direction of patent application preparation and prosecution by outside patent counsel. Work directly with technical and business teams to comprehend new developments and design and implement prosecution strategies to ensure the necessary protection of IP assets and alignment to business goals. Advise and assist with drafting IP-centric agreements, including joint development and collaboration, IP acquisitions, IP due diligence, open innovation activities, university research, and inbound and outbound license agreements. Serve as an associate general counsel in the firm’s legal department. 

Basic Qualifications:

-6+ years of experience with patent prosecution and IP counseling, including post-grant proceedings

-Experience with intellectual property issues in transactional matters, including agreement drafting and contract negotiation

-Experience with legal and analytical work, including serving as a business partner to develop comprehensive solutions to challenging problems

-Ability to work under pressure and have the flexibility to manage competing priorities and workload while meeting deadlines within a changing and fast-paced environment

-JD degree and admitted with good standing to one or more state bars

-Registered to practice before the USPTO

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with computer science, computer systems engineering, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other technical field

-Knowledge of US government contracting, including FAR/DFARS terms regarding data rights and subject inventions a plus

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
