<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />The incumbent serves as an expert consultant, providing leadership and direction in the coordination, development and execution of morbidity classification and related activities. Morbidity classification and coding involves a systematic approach to identifying the incidence of disease and injuries, as well as their causes.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br />As a Medical Systems Specialist, you will: <ul> <li>Develop, execute, and evaluates morbidity classification activities within the agency.</li> <li>Serve as the agency point of contact regarding morbidity classification.</li> <li>Advise national and international professionals conducting morbidity studies.</li> <li>Represent the agency as a liaison to other Federal agencies and international organizations on morbidity classification.</li> <li>Participate in the development and conduct of morbidity classification activities within the organization. </li> <li>Analyze morbidity classification and coding processes and issues to develop procedural recommendations to improve the effectiveness of classification and coding activities. </li> <li>Develop performance standards and evaluates work performance of subordinates. </li> <li>Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of works, when necessary.</li> <li>Other duties as assigned.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Occasional travel – You may be expected to travel domestically 10% and internationally 5% of the time for this position.<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> Yes <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> 14 <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> </ul> <br /> <ul> <li>US Citizenship is required.</li> <li>Background Investigation is required.</li> <li>E-Verify: If you are selected for this position, the documentation that you present for purposes of completing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 will be verified through the DHS "E-Verify" System. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.<br /><br /><strong>Minimum Qualifications: </strong>Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.<br /><br />Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include <strong>experience in the developing, implementing and analyzing morbidity classification and coding procedures using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).</strong> <br /><br /><b>Education</b><br /><br />Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements.
