<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />Incumbent will serve as a Network Administrator in OISM for NIST in Gaithersburg, MD.<br /><br /><strong> Satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical examination and drug test is required. </strong><br /><br /><strong>Your application package may be shared with other selecting officials at NIST with opportunities like the one you are applying to. Additional selections may be made through this vacancy. </strong><br /><br />This notice is under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage in.<br /><br />Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br />Incumbent will serve as a Network Administrator in the IT Security and Networking Division of the Office of Information Systems Management (OISM) for the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. Primary responsibility is to administer, support, optimize, and troubleshoot components of the NIST Boulder Physical Access Control System (PACS) Network and the NIST Gaithersburg Enterprise Network to ensure high levels of availability and security. This includes design, deployment and ongoing support of the enterprise cable plant, enterprise routing and switching, wireless, DNS, network access control, and network monitoring.<br /><br />IT Specialist (Network Service) responsibilities include performing standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related systems. Review system log messages regularly and address any abnormalities. Replace aging equipment as defined by a 5-year equipment refreshment plan. Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage. Review and deploy system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices. Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all systems.<br /><br />Collaborate in the identification of critical requirements and information technology management practices, challenges, and solutions. IT-related experience must demonstrate:<br /><br />1. Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.<br />2. Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.<br /><br /><strong>AND</strong><br /><br /><strong>In addition to the basic requirements</strong> , Applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 9 (ZP II at NIST) level.
