<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br /><b>About the Position: </b>This position is located at Fort Eustis, VA.<br /><br />New employees of this position will be required to complete the PEBLO distance learning course or by attendance at the 40-hour resident PEBLO course at Fort Sam Houston, TX within 180 days of appointment.<br /> Learn more about this agency <br /><br /><b>Responsibilities</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Counsel military personnel from all branches of the uniformed services, retirees and families being processed through Army Physical Disability Evaluation System (APDES).</li> <li>Coordinate evaluation appointments.</li> <li>Assist in preparing appeals and rebuttals.</li> <li>Provide information on rights and benefits of personnel, retirees, and/or discharged for physical disabilities with or without severance pay.</li> <li>Refer personnel to appropriate agencies to obtain counseling/guidance on benefits provided by Department of Labor, Social Security Administration and Veterans Affairs.</li> <li>Train leadership installation on issues relevant to APDES.</li> </ul> <br /><br /><b>Travel Required</b><br /><br />Occasional travel – Up to 5% Business Travel required.<br /><br />Supervisory status <br /> No <br /><br />Promotion Potential <br /> None <br /><br /></li> <b>Requirements</b><br /><br /><b>Conditions of Employment</b><br /><br /><ul> <li>Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.</li> <li>Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.</li> <li>Immunization screening is required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document .<br /><br /><strong>Specialized Experience: </strong>One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in counseling personnel on benefits; scheduling appointments; assisting in advising personnel in all phases of a medical evaluation process; and using automation equipment to update databases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).<br /><br />OR<br /><br /><strong>Education</strong><strong>:</strong> Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLB (Bachelor of Laws) or JD (Juris Doctor) with a major of study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.<br /><br />OR<br /><br /><strong>Combination</strong><strong> of Education or Experience:</strong> A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide the total number of graduate education (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18.
