Bridgestone Americas, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Patent Attorney with a Chemical Engineer or Chemistry background having at least 3 years of patent application preparation and prosecution experience to add to its Akron, Ohio Intellectual Property team. This position will work with members of the Bridgestone Americas, Bridgestone Japan and Bridgestone EMEA IP Departments to manage a patent portfolio, review, prepare, file and prosecute U.S. priority and national stage patent applications, and assist with other work, including opinions, agreements, and managing outside counsel. The position will have a heavy emphasis on reviewing translations from Japanese priority applications and amending them for PCT and U.S. filing.The work includes an interesting mix of polymer, tire and air spring technologies dealing with clients located primarily in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Some domestic and international travel may be required. Admission to the U.S. patent bar required. The patent counsel will report to the Bridgestone Americas, Inc. Chief Counsel, Intellectual Property.
Draft and prosecute U.S. priority and national stage patent applicationsReview foreign language translations into English and make appropriate amendments to the specification, claims and drawings for PCT and U.S. filingOversee and manage outside counsel in the filing and prosecution of patent applicationsWork with Bridgestone’s global IP team to manage a patent portfolio and formulate a global filing strategyParticipating from time to time as a member of a global cross functional team to provide support in opinion, agreement and other IP-related workResponsible for controlling and tracking spending to stay within budget guidelines
