Degree:</strong> that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.<br /><br /><strong>NOTE:</strong> Additionally, to receive credit for coursework that is not catalogued on the transcript as Statistics or contain 'statistics' in the course title, applicants must attach a copy of an official course description that clarifies the course has statistical content, or written documentation which must be on official school letterhead from a professor or a school official verifying that the content of the course has either met the 50 percent statistics course requirements or was a statistical course. If you do not submit sufficient academic documentation necessary to demonstrate that you meet the eligibility and minimum qualification requirements described in this announcement, your application will be deemed incomplete and you will be ineligible for further consideration for this vacancy.<br /><br /><strong>OR</strong><br /><br /><strong>B. Combination of education and experience</strong> — courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.<br /><br /><strong>AND</strong><br /><br /><strong>In addition to the above requirements, you must also meet the following requirements.</strong><br /><br /><strong>Specialized Experience</strong>:<br /><br />For the <strong>GS-11</strong>, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the <strong>GS-09</strong> in the Federal service.<br /><br /><strong>Experience for this position includes</strong>: applying statistical techniques, methodology, and methods; meeting deadlines; evaluating critical factors and technical writing such as, reports of findings and methods; communicating with management and other staff to relate progress of data collection operations and resolve issues and propose recommendations; and interpreting, adapting and applying organizational regulations, policies, precedents, and practices.<br /><br /><strong>OR</strong><br /><br /><strong>Education</strong>: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree<br /><br /><strong>Specialized Experience</strong>:<br /><br />For the <strong>GS-12</strong>, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the <strong>GS-11</strong> in the Federal service.<br /><br /><strong>Experience for this position includes</strong>: applying statistical techniques, methodology, and methods; meeting deadlines; evaluating critical factors and technical writing such as, reports of findings and methods; communicating with management and other staff to relate progress of data collection operations and resolve issues and propose recommendations; interpreting, adapting and applying organizational regulations, policies, precedents, and practices; and compiling data for technical reports analyzing and interpreting survey results.<br /><br /><strong>Education may not be substituted for experience at this level.</strong><br /><br />Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
