<b>Duties</b><br /><br /><b>Summary</b><br /><br />This position serves in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Operations Division, Mechanical Systems Branch. The selectee serves as a Maintenance Mechanic Helper performing routine tasks for shop maintenance and assists journey-level workers with assignments.<br /><br />Duties:<br /><br /><strong>AIR CONDITIONING:</strong><br /><br />- Assists with preventive maintenance inspections of air conditioning equipment including the various types and sizes of exhaust fans, air conditioning and heating equipment, humidifiers, pneumatic controls, hot water generators and other equipment.<br /><br />-Assists with direct digital controls (DDC) and building automation systems (BAS).<br /><br />-Assists in gathering and laying out tools and materials for major preventive maintenance jobs. Selects the appropriate tools and equipment for minor jobs.<br /><br /><strong>PIPEFITTING/PLUMBING:</strong><br /><br />-Assists journey-level workers by locating piping lines, setting up tools and equipment for use by others, cleaning up work areas after work has been completed and storing tools in appropriate storage areas. Helps journey-level workers with the installation and repair of utility, supply and disposal systems, for example, toilet, sinks, showers, sewage, water, steam, fire sprinklers, fixtures and other equipment.<br /><br />-Carries and handles tools, fittings and equipment for the journey level Pipefitter, holding pipe during assembly, and screwing or bolting pipe hangers to walls or ceilings.<br /><br /><strong>SHOP AND WORK SITE MAINTENANCE:</strong><br /><br />-Works with Plumbers, Pipefitters and A/C Equipment Mechanics to perform required maintenance, inspections and repairs. Assists with the assembly, laying out work, hanging of pipe by lifting, carrying and handing tools, fittings and equipment to the journey-level plumber or pipefitter; holding pipe during assembly, and screwing or bolting pipe hangers to walls, ceilings, etc.<br /><br />-Assists mechanics in sorting tools, cleaning the shop, carrying materials and maintaining a safe and clean work site environment.
